Antiqued Grey Board

Antiqued Grey Board, also referred to as farmed Hemlock, is a beautiful way to enhance your space and give a unique, antiqued feel.

Original Grey Board

The grey that we see and typically associate with barn board is a result of boards that have been exposed to extensive sunlight. Effectively, the sun bleaches the wood, and turns it grey. This is a process that impacts exterior boards exclusively.

Exposure of weathering for close to 100 years can cause the integrity of the boards to become thinner and more brittle. The reduction in integrity caused by original exterior boards makes it a less suitable candidate for certain applications.

Original interior barn boards would not be grey. Rather, they maintain closer to an original brown because of significantly less sunlight exposure.

Nostalgic Wood Antiqued Grey Board allows you to have the look and feel of the original exterior, sun-exposed boards without losing the structural integrity. This allows you to use the boards however needed for your project.

Antiqued Grey Board is manufactured by having hemlock boards put out in the field on an angle to get maximum sunlight – think solar panel – for about 2-3 years. As a result, the top layer becomes grey during this process, without losing the structural integrity.

Actually, a much more even colouration between boards is possible through this process. The grey variation on the original exterior grey barn board can very extensively due to shaded areas, different sun angles, etc.

Application

The structural integrity makes this a great candidate for exterior applications. It can be used as exterior siding in place of veneer options. Structural integrity is key for this kind of application, with the added benefit of already having the uniform weathered look. Additionally, there is cost savings when comparing it to reclaimed grey board.

Moreover, Antiqued Grey Board is also a suitable option for interior treatment options. The boards make for beautiful interior accent walls, finishes for 3-season room, ceiling boards, or wherever your inspiration takes you.

Board Size

The boards come straight edged for easy installation. If desired, the boards can be custom milled as shiplap. Board widths vary from 6″, 8″, 10″, and from 8ft to 10ft in length. Reclaimed options, however, come in random widths of 4″-12″ and random lengths of 3ft to 12ft. There is more consistency in the Antiqued Barn Board products. This is great option if uniformity is important to you.
